CSKA PHC honored in State Kremlin Palace

On May 25, 2015 CSKA Moscow Professional Hockey Club, which for the first time in history became the champion of Russia in the last season of the Continental Hockey League, was honored in the State Kremlin Palace. The awarding ceremony was attended by famous athletes and veterans of Russian sport, heads of the Russian Hockey Federation, Continental Hockey League, senior government officials and other distinguished guests.

At the ceremony, Vladislav Tretyak, triple Olympic champion and President of the Russian Hockey Federation, along with double Olympic champions Boris Mikhailov and Vladimir Petrov awarded the team gold medals of champions of Russia.

“I would like to congratulate everyone on the long-awaited and well-deserved victory! The most renowned Russian club became the champion of Russia for the first time. Congratulations on this great achievement, which confirms that the team has revived and became the successor to the one that was created by Vsevolod Bobrov, Viktor Tikhonov and all our veterans gathered today at the ceremony. I am sincerely glad that after a long break we have witnessed the rise of the club that definitely deserves the highest praise and the highest position. I am convinced that CSKA will be a real soul of the Russian hockey,” said Igor Sechin, Head of Rosneft and Chairman of CSKA’s Supervisory Board in his congratulatory speech.

Mikhail Mishustin, head of the Federal Tax Service, a member of the Supervisory Board of CSKA PHC, Irina Rodnina, a deputy of Russia’s State Duma, three-time Olympic champion, and other dignitaries also congratulated CSKA. The concert featuring famous Russian singers, who also congratulated CSKA on winning the Russian Hockey Championship, followed up the ceremony.

CSKA Moscow Professional Hockey Club is one of Russia’s oldest hockey teams. Player of Soviet major league since the first match in the history of the USSR/Russian Championships held on December 22, 1946. The club is 32-time champion of the USSR, 12-time winner of the USSR Cup, 20-time winner of the European Cup and 11-time vice-champion of Russia. Given the trophies won in the Soviet period, CSKA Moscow is Russia’s most renowned hockey club.

Last time CSKA became national champion in 1989, when it was led by the legendary Viktor Tikhonov and won the gold medal in the Soviet Hockey Championship.

In 2011, Rosneft and Russia’s Defense Ministry signed a partnership cooperation agreement to develop the CSKA Hockey Club.
