Experts of Verkhnechonskneftegaz JSC, a subsidiary of Rosneft Oil Company, have successfully implemented a physical and chemical method of enhanced oil recovery and achieved a 54% increase in additional oil production using this technology in 2018 compared to 2017. The method feature is to redistribute the volume of injected water over the intervals of the well perforation* to ensure uniform injection throughout the borehole.
Technological potential development is one of the key items of the Rosneft-2022 Strategy. The Company pays special attention to innovative development, recognising technology leadership as a key competitive factor on the oil market.
The technology introduced in Verkhnechonskneftegaz makes it possible to eliminate the so-called “premature water breakthrough” in production wells and to maintain the overburden pressure in the area of the processed well more efficiently, which ultimately leads to a decrease in water cut and, consequently, to an increase in the flow rate.
In 2019-2023, Verkhnechonskneftegaz plans to additionally produce 221 thousand tonnes of oil at the Verkhnechonskoye field using this technology, including 34 thousand tonnes in 2019.
* Perforation interval is the interval of boring casing with perforation holes, through which the formations and reservoirs link to the well.
