For the first time, the experts of RN-Yuganskneftegaz have built a horizontal multilateral double-column well with many side holes using the Fishbone technology. The total length of the well is 5,234 metres, the length of horizontal sections of the well is 2,161 metres. The well’s start-up capacity reached 600 tonnes of oil per day, which is 80% higher than the performance of nearby traditional horizontal wells.
Technological potential development is one of the key items of the Rosneft-2022 Strategy. The Company is actively introducing advanced technologies in the field of exploration and drilling, which allow for the efficient development of unconventional reserves.
The drilled well is unique due to the technically complex double-column design. The technology provides for a significant increase in the oil recovery factor due to a larger horizontal sweep, which gives a higher oil inflow.
The well with three branches was built within a short time--in 22 days. Drilling was carried out using rotary steerable systems and logging. To maintain the stability of the wellbore walls, a high-performance water-based drilling fluid was used, which allowed to significantly increase the economic efficiency of the project.
Note for Editors:
RN-Yuganskneftegaz is the key asset of Rosneft Oil Company providing about 30% of the Company’s total output. The accumulated output of RN-Yuganskneftegaz has exceeded 2.4 billion tonnes of oil since the start of commercial operation.
