Corporate Telehealth System Introduced at RN-Severnaya Neft Polar Fields

27 March 2020

A corporate telehealth* system has been introduced at remote fields of RN-Severnaya Neft, a subsidiary of Rosneft Oil Company, which has connected six healthcare facilities located beyond the Arctic Circle and in the Polar Region with the Nenets District Hospital.

The implementation of the project to improve access to and quality of medical care for oilfield workers is one of the priorities of the Rosneft 2022 Strategy’s social policy.

In 2018, the Company launched a dedicated programme to establish a corporate telehealth network of healthcare units at remote production facilities and large regional consultation and treatment centres.

RN-Severnaya Neft was included in the list of 18 subsidiaries of the Company to implement the pilot telehealth project. At the end of 2019, trial runs and testing of the system took place at the Khasyreyskoye field of Gamburtsev arch.

Five more fields were connected to the system in February. Presently, medical workers of Khasyreyskoye, Baganskoye, Salyukinskoye, Sandiveiskoye, Labaganskoye, and Naulskoye fields’ healthcare units have an opportunity to get in touch with specialists of the Naryan-Mar District Hospital through a secure channel at any time and get required consultations from surgeons, intensive care specialists, trauma surgeons, cardiologists, and neurologists.

The introduction of the telehealth network at the northern fields is an important step in addressing issues of employee health protection. The ability to promptly render qualified medical assistance is of great importance at remote oil fields, where work is carried out on a rotational schedule, in conditions when the temperature may drop under 40 degrees below zero in winter, given that in some cases a rapid evacuation of a patient from the field by helicopter may be limited by weather conditions.

The pilot project was tested at the Khasyreyskoye oilfield: medical workers at the oilfield initiated teleconsultations thus receiving consultative support from highly qualified doctors both for diagnostics of acute diseases and for choosing treatment tactics and medical evacuation.

The introduction of the telehealth system continued the consistent work of RN-Severnaya Neft in protecting the health of the Company’s employees, ensuring the quality and the utmost accessibility of medical care to shift workers.

All the healthcare units of the enterprise are provided with necessary equipment and materials for rendering prehospital medical aid. There are TRECOL-based ambulances, automated electrocardiographs, defibrillators, vacuum splints, and advanced simulation dummies for improving first aid and CPR skills at the disposal of remote-field paramedics.

Health Days are regularly held at the fields; employees are seen by a doctor and have the opportunity to get expert recommendations. The oilfield workers are offered so-called “green corridors”--the days when they can have a check-up at the Usinsk Central District Hospital without waiting in line.

RN-Severnaya Neft implements a corporate policy to promote a healthy lifestyle and sports activities in the regions where it operates. A series of sports and wellness events is held with the participation of the Company’s employees, their families, and social partners.
