The Arctic Attraction photographic exhibition has opened in Arkhangelsk, arranged by Rosneft Oil Company jointly with the Innopraktika non-governmental development institution as part of the international Arctic nations film festival Arctic Open 2020. The exhibition features unique shots from the atlas “Russian Arctic. Space, Time, Resources” and photos taken during vast research expeditions of Rosneft. Visitors to the exhibition will discover the majestic ice landscapes, amazing wildlife and biodiversity of underwater ecosystems in the Arctic.
Environmental protection is one of the key priorities for Rosneft Oil Company in its operations. The Company holds the most ambitious integrated research expeditions in the Arctic since the Soviet times. The Arctic project is not only about developing hydrocarbon deposits, but also about an elaborate programme to protect polar ecosystems. Over the past 8 years, more than 20 expeditions have taken place along the entire Arctic Ocean coast. As a result, a unique body of information has been collected on physical geography, oceanology, hydrometeorology and the ecology of the Arctic region, and new data on the population of red-listed animals, such as polar bears, walruses and ivory gulls.
The Arctic Open International Film Festival is a social and cultural project that brings together representatives of the film and theatre industry, scientists, students and residents of the northern territories. Its competitive, business, educational and cultural programmes provide an opportunity to discover modern culture and see premiere films by directors from the Nordic countries. This year’s film festival takes place in Arkhangelsk, Severodvinsk and Novodvinsk. The Arctic Attraction exhibition will be open in Arkhangelsk until December 6.
