Scientists of the Rosneft United Research and Development Centre have developed an innovative methane aromatisation technology. It provides for obtaining both hydrogen and aromatics from natural and associated petroleum gas. The technology is designed as an alternative to the existing methods of production of hydrogen and synthetic hydrocarbons.
Environment protection is an integral part of the Rosneft-2022 Strategy. The Company aims to achieve leadership positions in minimizing the environmental impact and ensuring the eco-friendliness of its production and plans to enter the upper quartile of international companies in terms of unit greenhouse gas emissions.
When the new technology is applied, 1 billion cubic metres of natural gas or APG refining results in 1 billion cubic metres of hydrogen and 0.5 million tonnes of aromatic hydrocarbons. The distinct advantages of the technology are a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, lower unit capital costs, increased product yield and economic efficiency.
With the introduction of the innovative methane aromatisation technology, Rosneft can provide consumers with green gas fuel.
