Rosneft has completed construction of the Suzun-Vankor gas pipeline with an annual gas transfer capacity of 2.2bn m3 and started comprehensive testing of the gas transportation system facilities in the Suzunskoye field, part of Vostok Oil, the largest upstream project in the modern oil and gas industry.
A new interfield gas pipeline Suzun-Vankor, about 80 km long, supplies associated petroleum gas from the Suzunskoye field to the Central gathering facility at the Vankor field, where it is treated to marketable quality. The Suzunskoye field has recoverable reserves of 39 billion m3 of gas. Gas from both fields is sent to the country’s unified gas transportation system for delivery to consumers. Thus, synergies are achieved by utilising Vankor’s existing strong infrastructure. Nearly 43 billion m3 of marketable gas has been sent from the Vankor cluster fields to the UGSS to date.
The Suzun-Vankor gas pipeline was built overland, the most reliable and environmentally friendly method in the Polar region. It has two bridge crossings over bodies of water and four under-stream crossings installed by directional drilling. More than 5,100 pillars and over 12,000 piles were used in its construction. An automatic remote valve control system has been installed at the nodes of the valves, improving the reliability and safety of the gas pipeline.
High environmental performance standards and the development of environmental technologies are a key element of Rosneft’s strategy. The Company aims to achieve leadership positions in minimizing the environmental impact and ensuring the eco-friendliness of its production.
The implementation of the gas programme at the Suzunskoye field is an important step towards reducing the carbon footprint of the large-scale Vostok Oil project. The Vankor field has one of the most extensive modern gas gathering, treatment and transportation systems in the industry, enabling us to achieve the highest level of utilisation of associated petroleum gas in the industry, nearly 100%.
Note for Editors:
Vostok Oil is the largest investment project in the global oil and gas industry, with a resource base of more than 6 billion tonnes of premium low-sulphur oil. It is comprised of 52 license areas located in the north of Krasnoyarsk Territory and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, which accommodate 13 oil and gas fields, including fields of the Vankor and Payakha clusters.
RN-Vankor, a subsidiary of Rosneft Oil Company, is the operator of the Vankor cluster oil fields.
