More than a thousand projects have been implemented by Rosneft to support the indigenous peoples of the north. The Company summed up the results of work in this area in the run-up to the International Day of the World's Indigenous Minorities, which is celebrated on August 9.

The holiday was established in 1994 by the UN General Assembly to draw attention to the issues of preserving the traditions and culture of small groups of the world's population.

Supporting the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North and preserving their national culture and traditional way of life are one of the main directions of Rosneft's social policy in the regions of its presence. The Company has approved and is implementing a large-scale program to support the cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of the North. Rosneft subsidiaries also contribute to increasing the employment of the indigenous population and the development of national industries.

The projects are being implemented on the territory of the Taimyr Peninsula, in the Turukhansk and Evenk districts of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Khanty-Mansiysk, Surgut and Nefteyugansky districts of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, and Yakutia.

One of the key projects was the revival of the Kharampur national village by RN-Purneftegaz. As part of the project, a boarding school, a club with a library and other social facilities, as well as a fish processing workshop were built. Now the village of Kharampur has over 800 inhabitants.

With the support of RN-Uvatneftegaz, a cultural national center “Uvas Mir Hot” (“House of Northern People”) was created in the suburbs of Tyumen. It has become a venue for cultural events and holidays for northerners. Today "Uvases Mir Hot" is a well-known center of ethnic tourism in Russia.

The RN-Yuganskneftegaz company provided access to the Internet for 800 residents of the ancestral lands in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Yugra. This is the first region of Russia in which, without leaving the camp, you can remotely receive education, consultations of medical specialists, state services in digital form, and use other information resources.

The preservation of the ecology of the region and its biological diversity plays a key role in maintaining the traditional way of life of the northern peoples.

Vostsibneftegaz (VSNK) supports with grants research into the population of wild reindeer - a biological indicator species, Siberian sable and rare white-fronted goose, projects to study the ecosystems of the Tunguska nature reserve, the development of the first Red Book of Evenkia and others. One of the most interesting ethnocultural projects of recent years is the creation of an electronic version of the Evenk-Russian dictionary "Evedy-luchady tureruk", which supplemented the unique library of publications about the Evenk language, traditions, and folklore.

In the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, RN-Shelf-Arctic is holding a unique event for the region - the ecological forum ECOARCTIC. The Forum solves several tasks: participation, together with government authorities, in the social development of the region, environmental education of young people, exchange of knowledge, scientific research.

Rosneft maintains constant communication with representatives of public organizations and tribal communities of the indigenous peoples of the North. The dialogue contributes to the most effective development of interaction between the parties and the implementation of support programs for indigenous peoples.
